More delays in disabled teen rape case
The case of a man who allegedly raped a 13-year-old disabled girl has been postponed for the fourth time.
|||Durban - The case of a man who allegedly raped a 13-year-old disabled girl has been postponed in the Durban Magistrates Court for the fourth time.
At the bail hearing on Thursday, the court was notified that the investigating officer constable was ill and could not attend proceedings.
The further postponement of the case came as a surprise to the suspect’s wife who was visibly emotional about the delay.
Last week, the victim’s mother said the suspect’s wife informed her about the alleged rape. However, the wife has denied the allegations.
“She is lying, I never told her that, she came to my house, and she said she wants to talk to my husband about business which was not working well.
“After a disagreement between the two, she told me to agree to her allegations about rape so that the police must take him. She told me to tell the police, I must say my husband raped her daughter. I said I can not agree to something I don’t know. He never did it. I don’t understand why she is doing this to my husband,” she said.
The 22-year-old mother of two girls, 2 years and 5 months said she is going through a difficult period.
“I have two babies and I can’t take care of them. I am sick and I can’t work anymore only my husband works. I am suffering; I don’t have any family here in South Africa. I only have my husband,” she said.
The victim’s family were not present at court.
The accused is expected to appear in court again on 28 January.
