Jenny Slate Says Her 'Looney Tunes' Script Wasn't As "Formulaic And Mainstream" As The Studio Wanted
It might not have made as much noise as some of the bigger blockbusters around it, but the indie "Obvious Child" was a great success this summer. It was the highest grossing film ever for A24, taking in $3.1 million, and raised the profile of lead actress Jenny Slate. But she was already on Hollywood's radar. Way back in 2012, the former "Saturday Night Live" cast member was hired to pen a live action/CGI "Looney Tunes" movie for Warner Bros., but it looks like that project won't be going forward, at least not with her script.
“It was very, very fun to write it, but in the end, I don’t think I was able to be as formulaic and mainstream as that movie needs,” Slate told Yahoo. “It really needs that. It’s a very old, very important franchise, and if it’s going to be done, I think it really has to be a more mainstream thing. And I don’t know that I’m really interested in being that voice.”
