London (dpa) - As US president-elect Donald Trump waits for his chance to make good on his promise to build a wall along the Mexican border, in Ireland his golf resort has dropped plans to erect a wall flanking the Atlantic Ocean.A revised planning application by Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg, County Clare, reportedly omitted mention of the 3-kilometre sea wall, in a move that Irish environmentalists called a "milestone" for their campaign.Trump‘s golf resort had applied earlier this year to build a rock wall to a height of 4.5 metres, but the new plan presented at a planning consultation event late Monday did not include the wall in its plan for coastal defences, national broadcaster RTE and other media reported Tuesdasy.Clare County Council confirmed the plan to build the wall had been withdrawn, the broadcaster said.Friends of the Irish Environment said Tuesday the Trump resort on Ireland‘s west coast will propose a less obtrusive coastal defence using concealed sheet metal piling at either end of a stretch of sand dunes."There is no doubt the original proposal would have stopped the development of the dune system and scoured the beach, leading to a loss of one of the finest amenities on the west coast," said Tony Lowes, the group‘s director."While the sense of relief today is enormous - as is the gratitude to the international community - the current proposal will require detailed analysis before we can comment on its potential impact," Lowes said.
