Piers Morgan: Donald Trump is looking forward to 'doing business' with Theresa May
Donald Trump is looking forward to “doing business” with Theresa May, Piers Morgan said after speaking with the US president-elect by phone.
The television presenter said Mr Trump had sounded “incredibly confident” during the call.
He told ITV’s The Agenda: "His view of Theresa May is he doesn't know her, but he had a very nice conversation with her, and he looks forward to doing business.
"Trump is not sitting there thinking how can I please Britain every minute of the day - forget it.
"You need to view him through the prism of a deal-making businessman.
"There has never been for America, for Britain, for our position with Europe, a better time to have someone who is a very skilled business brain and deal-maker to be working with us.
"It's in our interest to screw the best deal we can - and I think Trump would be very receptive to that."
The Good Morning Britain host, who claims he used to speak to Mr Trump every three or four weeks when he worked at CNN, said he initially missed a call.
"Truth be known, he called me on Wednesday and I was asleep - I woke up to a message saying: 'This is the office of Donald Trump, the president-elect, he'd like to speak with you'.
"And, I was like, you know what, I'll get back to you. I then spoke to him the next day - we had a 15 minute chat. Without going onto the detail what I can say is he was incredibly confident, very pleased about his win, very excited about the challenge.
"I always said to people ... he is divisive, he is challenging, he's not everyone's cup of tea. But, I don't think he's the next Hitler. I don't think he's appointing a bunch of Nazis in his cabinet.
"I think he's a pragmatic business guy who played very hard-ball to get the Republication nomination.
"I say to the people of Europe give the guy a chance he won the election and is the most powerful guy on earth."
Asked if he would work for Mr Trump, the TV host said: "I would never discuss my career prospects, and I'll leave that rumour hanging in the air for the potentially lucrative benefit to myself."
