In a recent interview with NotJustOk TV, popular producer and founder of Mavin Records, Michael Collins Ajereh aka Don Jazzy, shed light on some issues fans have been wondering about; like why his deal with Good Music didn’t work out, Tiwa Savage’s deal with Roc Nation, and how the world is paying more attention to Nigerian music.

About the Good Music deal

I had Mo Hits at the time and a couple of artistes who were still coming up at the time. So I didn’t feel it was the right time to move to the Good Music camp as at that time. But if I left at that time, the guys I had in Nigeria were just going to be in a limbo. In the Good Music camp, they weren’t even ready for us. There was no need to keep wasting money in America and chasing celebrities that is not why I’m doing this. So I decided to come back to Nigeria and keep working until they are ready for us fully. The deal was for one year. Even though I was back home I kept sending them beats. It’s just unfortunate that they didn’t use any.

On Tiwa Savage’s deal with Roc Nation

Tiwa is still signed to Mavin records. What she has with Roc Nation is a management deal which is common all over the world. Obviously, they would use their power to open other doors that we at Mavin can’t open at the moment. It is going to be a beautiful partnership from this point on.

On him retiring from music

I never said I was going to retire from music. I only said I was going to take a break from my artiste side. When I am tired of the break, I’ll return to my artiste side again. I’m even out of the break sef. Didn’t you see me perform at the One Africa Fest show?

On his relationship with Rihanna

I like Rihanna. But you know I’m always joking. But if she calls me, I’ll definitely answer.
