Governor Rochas Okorocha
Just as the federal government is trying to convince Nigerians that the economy is not doing too badly, Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha has shocked the presidency by calling for declaration of a state of emergency on the economy.
Speaking in an interview with Leadership newspaper, Okorocha admitted that the economy is in such a terrible state that the government needs to first carry out emergency resuscitation measures. This, he said, can only be done with all Nigerians fully on board.

“There’s nothing wrong with that, in fact, we have to declare a state of economic emergency right now in Nigeria and all hands must be on deck to fix the economy of this country. For some of us and I think for all Nigerians who travel out, we know that we need to stand up and avoid sentiment and face the issue,” Okorocha said in reply to a question about his reaction to President Muhammadu Buhari’s seeking of emergency powers from the national assembly.
Okorocha’s submission comes just a day after his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) tweeted quotes from ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan on its official Twitter handle on Monday, August 29. The tweet was in the bid to keep Nigerians believing in the ability of the struggling economy to survive and not slide into full-scale recession.
On the other hand, Okorocha denied that he was ever sick as published in the media some days ago. According to him, his trip abroad was not for medical attention but to see his grandchild.

“No, I have never been sick at all, I have never been sick. I am always healthy. I am not in a hurry to go (laughs). I am very health and I have never been to any hospital. I am fine, stronger and better. I don’t know where the rumour comes from but it is nothing to write home about.
“Well, I was just coming from the United States of America. I went to see my grandson. I have just been blessed with another grandson, making a total of four grandchildren. So, I went to see my family and they are doing well,” said Okorocha, who blamed detractors for the reports he said were totally false.
Meanwhile, Nigerians, who are desperate to see much-awaited change have taken to the Facebook account of the former minister of finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to beg her to help Nigeria revive the economy and vying it out of recession since it’s crystal clear that the government of the day seems over burdened on the way to go.
Before this, Okonjo-Iweala has in the past year been accused of corruption by the Buhari government and her credentials as a financial juggernaut and one of the most powerful women in the world were rubbished by the APC and many Nigerians.
