U.S. skating returning to San Jose
San Jose will host the 2018 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, which essentially serve as the trials for the Winter Olympics.
Champions will be crowned in 20 events in women’s, men’s, pairs and ice dance at the senior, junior, novice, intermediate and juvenile levels.
“The Bay Area is steeped in figure-skating tradition with some of the sport’s legends calling the area home,” U.S. Figure Skating President Sam Auxier said, referencing Olympic champions Peggy Fleming, Brian Boitano and Kristi Yamaguchi.
Messi will travel to join the Argentina squad, but his “presence in his country’s World Cup qualifying matches will depend on how the injury develops,” Barcelona says.
San Jose is 7-8-11 and in seventh place in the Western Conference, three points back of Portland for the final playoff berth.
Frank McCourt, the former owner of the Dodgers, is buying French soccer club Marseille from Russian-born billionaire Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, heralding a new chapter for a team that has fallen into the shadow of rival Paris Saint-Germain.
Olympics: A Brazilian judge ordered the release of a high-ranking IOC member who was arrested during the Rio de Janeiro Games in a ticket-scalping probe.
