Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, Nigerian business man and founder of Silverbird group, took to Facebook to express his disappointment in the mass marriage in Kano.
He criticized the state for focusing on marriage instead of creating job for people.

His complaint comes following the news that over 10,000 Muslim women registered to be married at a mass marriage ceremony in Kano. This mass ceremony is done by the Hizba board which is the main Islamic authority in the state and the aim is to reduce the number of single women.

It starts by introducing the women to potential husbands and then the women have to choose. Some women search by themselves and do not find a suitable partner so the mass ceremony can help them accomplish this. Some find relief in the mass ceremony because it saves wedding costs.
A total of 5,000 men and women have been married since mass weddings were introduced in Kano in 2012.
However, not everyone agreed with Murray-Bruce’s opinion.
