Sheriff declares PDP Edo guber primary illegal
– Senator Ali modu Sheriff has declared PDP’s governorship primaries in Edo state as illegal
– Sheriff has asked party members not to acknowledge the state primaries
– The former PDP chairman announced the appointment of some officers as members of the National Working Committee
Ali modu Sheriff, the former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared Monday’s guber primaries in Edo state as illegal, dismissing it as the work of an illegal care-taker Committee.
He urged members of the party nationwide especially in Edo State to disregard it, Vanguard reports.

In a letter signed by the national chairman and the national secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo to the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the party through the letter urged INEC not to give legitimacy to what happened in Edo and said that the party is going to conduct a proper primary in the state.
Also in another statement, the party released a scheduled congress in Edo state to start from Wednesday, June 23-Thursday, June 29 with the inauguration of Congress Committee scheduled for Thursday.
The former national chairman warned the state chairmen and officers of the party to desist meeting or having anything with the illegal Caretaker committee adding that anybody dealing with them is on his own.
Sheriff in another statement also announced the appointment of some deputy national Officers as members of the National Working Committee in acting capacity.
The newly appointed officers are: Okey Nnadozie – acting national organizing secretary, Alonge-Niyi Dennis –acting national youth leader, Mrs. Hannatu Ullam –acting national women leader and Bashir Maidugu –acting national legal adviser.

The PDP had on Monday, June 20, declared Osagie Ize-Iyamu winner of its Edo state governorship primary election.
Iyamu won the election by a total of 584 votes to emerge winner, beating his closest rival, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, who scored 91 votes, to come a distant second. The other candidate, Mr Solomon Edebiri polled 38 votes to come third. The primary election to decide the PDP’s contender in September 10 poll was held on Monday at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium
