The leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu on Friday said the Subsidy Reinvestment-Programme introduced by the Goodluck Jonathan administration was aimed at defrauding the Nigerian people.
Speaking at a meeting with leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Tinubu said the acronym SURE-P was aimed at deceiving Nigerians.
“Where is that SURE-P? What is sure about it? It is corruption,” he rhetorically stated.
Tinubu said: “It is not about cheap oil, it is about progress and disposable income that will ameliorate the suffering of the people.”
“Who are the beneficiaries of SURE-P?” Tinubu asked. “What are we doing? We are shipping our labour and our money and our productivity and the by-products to overseas to the benefit of non-Nigerians,” he said.
He also called on Nigerians to exercise patience with the policies of the President Muhammadu Buhari- led administration which he said is aimed at correcting mistakes made by past administrations.
Below are some of the statements made by the APC leader:
1. SURE-P is SURE-Poverty, SURE-Stealing, SURE-Diversity, SURE-Manipulation.

2. When America was in trouble, economic depression, they looked for a retired general, elected him into government and they brought him a social welfare programme; American depression started going away and economic progress started.
3. The other option will work for the betterment of Nigeria, and I take a bet with you, and guarantee you, it will work! Buhari will listen to us, we will work together in making those changes.
4. Let us look at the hazard of non-availability, of people sleeping in the gas stations, are you proud of that?
5. I can take oath and swear on behalf of Buhari, not just APC as our party alone that he will not touch a penny for personal gain, he has that character, integrity and honesty to steer the ship.
The meeting between the APC leadership and the the NLC was necessitated due the ongoing strike led by the labour union following the increase in fuel pump price from N86.50 to N145.
The leaders at the meeting also agreed to go back to the negotiation table to bring an end to the ongoing strike.
Also present at the meeting were: the governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola, President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, former director General of National Orientation Agency, Idi Farouk, senators Suleiman Ledan, Kabiru Marafa and Suleiman Usman among others.
