Controversy continues as Buhari again refuses to sign 2016 budget
– President Buhari has returned the 2016 budget to National Assembly over grey areas in the document

The controversy surrounding the 2016 budget is far from over as President Muhammadu Buhari has returned the document to the National Assembly, pointing out areas of concern in the budget and demanding adjustment.

The spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Abdurazaq Namdas, told journalists on Thursday, April 21, that the National Assembly had received a letter from the president identifying grey areas in the budget, Premium times reports.
Namdas added that the leadership of both chambers and their respective relevant committees would meet on the development soon.
He however stopped short of disclosing the grey areas pointed out by the president, saying the National Assembly would make them known to Nigerians in due course.

Since the National Assembly passed the budget on March 23, and later transmitted it to President Buhari for assent. The president has refused to sign the document citing the omission of certain projects and addition of others not proposed by the executive.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the timetable for Nigeria’s 2017 budget following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. This was announced by the official Aso Rock Twitter account on Wednesday, April 20. l
