MTV is launching its first regular live music series in almost 2 decades
In the age of YouTube, one might wonder if anyone under the age of 25 even knows what "music television" means anymore. That might all be about to change: MTV will be bringing back its first weekly live music series in almost two decades and relaunching its MTV Unplugged performance series, Bloomberg reports.
"We are re-asserting our DNA. MTV has to be the network that gives voice to youth and gives artists a voice to speak to youth. Music is our muse," MTV president Sean Atkins said. Along the lines of Total Request Live, the weekly music show Wonderland will host concerts in a loft in downtown Los Angeles. "It will be a place you want to go, a physical place where you can be part of MTV. No one wants TRL again, but they want to know how we recapture the spirit of an event people want to attend," Atkins said.
MTV will also be bringing back Cribs via Snapchat, as well as 14 new series including a music competition show.
