Moscow (dpa) - The Islamist militant group Hezbollah must not obtain advanced weaponry, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a visit in Moscow on Thursday.Hezbollah, an enemy of Israel, is supporting the Syrian government in that country‘s civil war, as is Russia, a close ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.Netanyahu warned Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting in the Kremlin that Hezbollah obtaining advanced weaponry is a red line that cannot be crossed, Russian state news agency TASS reported.Russian state media last week reported that Russia recently delivered a batch of S-300 long-range, surface-to-air missile systems to Iran, a regional foe of Israel.Putin told Netanyahu that amid the tense situation in the Middle East, Russia and Israel must maintain a close relationship.Netanyahu told Putin that their countries must more closely coordinate their anti-terrorism operations, "to avoid potential mistakes, misunderstandings and incidents," TASS reported.Netanyahu said that was the main goal of his visit to Moscow. The leaders also discussed efforts to reach a settlement for the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the Kremlin said in a statement.Earlier this week, Putin met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the Kremlin and emphasized that Russia supports Palestine‘s "vigorous efforts" to establish peace.
