North Carolina, Mississippi’s Anti-Gay Laws Prompt UK Warnings to Citizens Traveling to America
If North Carolina and Mississippi’s anti-LGBT laws weren’t embarrassing enough, they’re now prompting travel warnings from other countries.
On Wednesday, the United Kingdom issued a warning to citizens urging anyone traveling to those states to rethink their plans following newly signed anti-gay laws.
“The U.S. is an extremely diverse society and attitudes towards LGBT people differ hugely across the country,” the British government said on its travel advice website. “LGBT travelers may be affected by legislation passed recently in the states of North Carolina and Mississippi.”

Both North Carolina and Mississippi have been under fire in recent weeks for passing broad pieces of legislation that essentially discriminates against LGBT people.
A growing number of companies, artists, and government agencies have refused to do business in those states. Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Boston, Ringo Starr and Cirque du Soleil have all recently canceled shows there.
