Istanbul (dpa) - A Palestinian man convicted of murder in Israel was found dead Friday at the Palestinian Authority‘s embassy in Bulgaria, with the man‘s political party calling his death an "assassination."After more than two decades on the run, Omar Nayef Ziyad had been hiding out in an embassy in Sofia for the past two months, with Israel demanding his extradition from Bulgaria. The 52-year-old man had been convicted of the murder of an Israeli in 1986 before escaping captivity in Israel.Palestinian media reported that Ziyad, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), was found injured in the morning and later died in hospital. The PFLP issued a statement saying it held Israel responsible for the "assassination" while also slamming the Palestinian Authority and Bulgaria for failing to protect him.The Israeli Ynet news portal said Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borisov was today visiting Israel, apparently as part of an ongoing dialogue over Ziyad‘s fate. The Israeli Foreign Ministry said it found out about Ziyad‘s death through the media, Ynet quoted the ministry as saying.
