Activist Uses 'Ted Cruz Was The Zodiac' Meme To Raise $35K To Fund Abortions

There are a lot of words one could use to describe Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and if you’ve spent any appreciable amount of time online, there’s a good chance you’ve seen “Zodiac Killer” among them.

But activist Tim Faust, who’s selling “Ted Cruz Was The Zodiac” shirts with the goal of funding abortions for low-income women in West Texas, has no shortage of other suggestions.

“Ted Cruz is low, worse than a snake, reprehensible, an abuser of power,” Faust said in a Thursday phone interview with TPM. “He’s a particular kind of scuzz.”

While Faust is far from the first person to make a “Ted Cruz is the Zodiac” crack—the joke format has been kicking around the internet for years—the meme took on new relevance in 2016, as Cruz vies for the Republican presidential nomination on the national stage.
