  Saved an early Faupala shot, but couldn't stop the City forward from restoring parity after being caught out of position.

• 3/23 Cesar Azpilicueta: 6

  Was solid for the home side in the first half, but was at fault for failing to get close enough to Faupala just before he scored. However, he recovered and never had too many problems thereafter.

• 4/23 Gary Cahill: 7

  After getting injured early on, the centre-back showed a lack of pace to stop Faupala from running clear and scoring but made up for it when he started the move that led to Willian scoring before firing in Chelsea's third in fine fashion.

• 5/23 Branislav Ivanovic: 6

  Acting as captain in the absence of John Terry, the defender enjoyed a good game but has to take some blame for City's shock equaliser after allowing Iheanacho to send his low ball into the box for Faupala to convert.

• 6/23 Baba Rahman: 7

  Following on from his impressive performance against PSG, the Ghana international was in superb form particularly when going forward, overlapping well with Hazard on several occasions - and winning a second-half penalty following his foray forward. His many crosses into the box should really have been converted into a goal by his attacking teammates, but still another good showing from the left-back as he attempts to cement his place in this team.

• 7/23 Cesc Fabregas: 6

  Displayed some good link-up play with the likes of Pedro to first, nearly set up his compatriot for an early goal, before forcing Caballero into a save from his shot and then starting the move that led to Costa's goal. His revival in form continues.

• 8/23 John Obi Mikel: 6

  Protected Chelsea's back line well alongside Fabregas and his continued fine form will surely worry Nemanja Matic, who has been forced to settle for a place on the bench because of Mikel's consistent performances.

• 9/23 Pedro: 8

  Was one of Chelsea's most impressive forwards in the game. The Spain international should have scored in the 14th minute, but shot just wide with Caballero beaten, but he didn't give up - handing Kolarov and Celina many problems with his pace and tricky footwork. He continues to show why he has the mental fortitude to react to criticism of his form and play a key role for Chelsea.

  Came on in place of Pedro, but disappointingly shot a late penalty straight at Caballero.

• 10/23 Willian: 7

  Got involved in the home side's attacking play many times, and got on the scoresheet after superbly making a run down the length of the pitch and latching back onto Hazard's pass to score.

• 11/23 Eden Hazard: 9

  Won the battle with Manu Garcia time and time again, and was rewarded for his improved performance with an assist for Costa's goal, while nearly creating another for Pedro. After switching flanks for the second period, the Belgian then set up Willian for his goal and then Cahill before scoring himself. An outstanding showing following on from fierce criticism of his form by many recently.

  Headed in Chelsea's opener in superb fashion and was a nuisance for City early on. Came off to a standing ovation from the home fans. Another good showing from the in-form striker.
  Bertrand Traore: 7
  Replaced Costa with 20 minutes to go, and keeps on showing why Hiddink has such faith in his abilities with a well-taken late goal.

• 13/23 Willy Caballero: 4

  Was by far the busier of the two goalkeepers and started the game off well, coming off his line to save the many shots Chelsea took, although he nervously cleared a cross from Baba in first half. Made a brilliant save to deny Pedro just before the break at 1-1 but will take the blame for failing to stop Cahill's effort from going in.

• 14/23 Pablo Zabaleta: 5

  Was kept busy throughout the match and cleared the danger on a few occasions but struggled to really contain Hazard, exemplified when he didn't stop the Belgian from sending in the cross for Cahill's goal.

• 15/23 Tosin Adarabioyo: 5

  Did enough to stop Costa for an 18th-minute goalscoring chance, but could have given away a penalty after he felled the Chelsea striker. Luckily for him, though, it wasn't given but he then suffered the mishap of failing to stop Hazard from sending in cross that Costa scored.

• 16/23 Martin Demichelis: 4

  Should have done more to prevent Costa from heading in the opener after leaving him in space and generally showed a lack of pace to deal with Chelsea's pace up front. Was booked for a cynical challenge on Hazard and it was from the resulting free kick that Chelsea went 4-1 up.

• 17/23 Aleksandar Kolarov: 4

  Disappointingly left Costa with space and time to score Chelsea's opener and, in general, didn't succeed in stopping the Blues' attacks from the flank.

• 18/23 Fernando: 5

  Started off well, but will be disappointed to have seen Cahill's goal rebound off him and into the goal. Will feel he could have done more to mark the likes of Willian and Fabregas.

• 19/23 Aleix Garcia: 5

  Looked good going forward but afforded Hazard too much space and time to build up Chelsea's attacks.

• 20/23 Manu Garcia: 6

  The 18-year-old was involved in the build-up to City's equaliser with his fine run, but was relatively quiet thereafter.

• 21/23 Bersant Celina: 5

  Showed glimpses of why he is so highly rated but not enough to warrant a starting berth in the coming games for City.

• 22/23 Kelechi Iheanacho: 6

  Had a great chance for the visitors, in the few they carved out, but fired high although he did go on to provide the assist for Faupala's goal.

• 23/23 David Faupala: 7

  Made an outrageous dribble past Cahill and Chelsea's defence to test Courtois with an early shot before leaving Chelsea stunned when he equalised just a minute after Costa had scored.
