49ers notes: RT Davis’ status uncertain; Kelly will find role for FB Miller
Davis, 26, has said on social media he will return this season after allowing his body to heal following an injury plagued 2014 season in which he sustained a concussion and played in just seven games.
Baalke presumably has talked with Davis about his potential return, but he declined to address the nature of their discussions, noting Davis has yet to apply for reinstatement to the NFL.
“I’ve had a couple brief conversations with him,” Baalke said. …
[...] he applies for reinstatement, there’s really nothing to talk about.
Kelly didn’t have a fullback on the roster during his three seasons with the Eagles, but Baalke suggested Kelly would carve out a role for Miller in 2016.
Miller, 28, a 201 seventh-round pick, converted to fullback after playing defensive end at Central Florida.
“I know in visiting with (Kelly), like any good football coach, they’re going to evolve and they’re going to use the talent they have at their disposal to the best of their ability,” Baalke said.
Outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks, 31, is scheduled to count $9.6 million against the salary cap in 2016, according to OverTheCap.com, inviting speculation he could be released in a cost-cutting move.
