Defender of Fatherland Day celebrated in Yerevan
A ceremony attached to February 23 - Defender of the Fatherland Day was held in Russia's Embassy in Yerevan.
Russia's Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volinkin mentioned that February 23 is a significant date in the history of Russia. "Defender of the Fatherland Day has not only a high state status but is also a really nationwide holiday in Russia, he mentioned.
Touching upon relations between Yerevan and Moscow the Ambassador noted that Russian- Armenian politico-military cooperation is a vital component of bilateral relations, serves to the interests of both countries and has significant geopolitical significance in the region.
Volinkin mentioned that Russians and Armenians fought together in many wars and reached for help in difficult moments. The Ambassador is sure that friendly relations between the countries, armies and people will last for centuries.
The Defense Minister of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan also congratulated all the attendees and noted that although February 23 is not a state holiday in Armenia, the older generation loves it as they served in the Soviet Army.
According to Ohanyan currently Russian Armed Forces are a stable guarantee for security and peace and ensure territorial integrity and sovereignty of their country.
He also reminded that Russian 102nd military base is located in Armenia, with which Armenian Armed Forces cooperate in various areas, and which is also a guarantee for Armenia's security.
At the end of the event Russian diplomats made a surprise by performing anthem of Armenian Armed forces on Armenian language.
