Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna Admits He ‘Misses Boxing Every Day’ Following Retirement, Eyes Future While Leading New Ventures
Former world title challenger and fan-favorite Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna has officially stepped away from the ring following his December 6th victory in Atlantic City, but the itch to fight hasn’t gone anywhere.
LaManna closed the chapter on his in-ring career in dramatic fashion, scoring a 5th round come-from-behind knockout victory over Juan Rodriguez Jr., a fitting ending for a fighter known for grit, resilience, and heart.
Now retired, LaManna has shifted his focus toward growing the sport from the promotional and business side. As the founder of Rising Star Promotions, he is actively building one of the most consistent club-level boxing platforms in the tri-state area. His next major event is set for April 10th at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, streaming live on ProBox TV, marking another significant step forward for the company’s expansion and national exposure.
In addition to his promotional efforts, LaManna has taken on a new role with global combat sports brand Venum, where he serves as Combat Sports Brand Manager, helping bridge the gap between athletes, culture, and brand identity in boxing.
Despite the transition, LaManna hasn’t ruled out a return but only under very specific circumstances.
“I miss boxing every single day,” said LaManna. “I’m at peace with what I’ve done and staying retired, but I’d be lying if I said that fire isn’t there. I’ve been on record saying the only way I come out of retirement is for two names, and that’s Danny Garcia or Caleb Plant.”
LaManna emphasized the magnitude of a potential showdown with Philadelphia’s own Danny Garcia, a former unified world champion and future Hall of Famer.
“A fight with Danny in Atlantic City or Philadelphia would be massive. That’s the kind of event that makes sense and honestly, it would be an honor to share the ring with a future Hall of Famer like him.”
A bout with Caleb Plant carries a different kind of storyline. The two exchanged words during the lead-up to the May 31st event, where LaManna faced Jermall Charlo and Plant suffered a loss to Armando Resendiz adding intrigue and unfinished business to a potential clash.
“Me and Caleb had our back and forth. There’s history there, especially with how that whole night played out. It’s one of those fights that just naturally builds interest.”
For now, LaManna remains focused on building fighters, events, and opportunities through Rising Star Promotions but as he’s made clear, the door isn’t completely closed.
And if the right name calls, “Cornflake” just might answer.
