Goal of TRIP program also control over Syunik`s mineral resources, including uranium deposits - expert
ArmInfo. The implementation of the TRIPP project will effectively secure Washington's presence in the international Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridor, which will simultaneously resolve numerous logistical, energy, mining, and military- political issues. This is according to energy security expert Vahe Davtyan.
According to him, the goal of the TRIPP program is also to control Syunik's mineral resources, including uranium deposits. Specifically, the expert recalled that the book "Uranium Content of Geological Formations in Armenia" by Professor Petros Aloyan, Doctor of Geological Sciences, published in 2010, presents a map clearly indicating the main zones of uranium reserves in Armenia. "Washington's geoeconomic goals are very clear: to keep up with China and Russia, where nuclear energy development is proceeding at a revolutionary pace (thorium reactors, fast neutron reactors). It is noteworthy that Russia is currently the largest supplier of enriched uranium to the US market. Furthermore, Washington seeks to prevent the possible diversification of uranium supplies to France, given Paris's weakening position in Niger and Gabon. Trump continues to view the European market as a zone of economic colonization. TRIPP effectively ensures Washington's presence in the international Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridor, which simultaneously allows it to address numerous logistical, energy, mining, and military-political issues," noted Vahe Davtyan.
It is worth noting that the possible presence of uranium reserves at the Amulsar deposit has long been a concern for the Armenian public, particularly among environmental groups that oppose the construction and operation of the Amulsar gold mine. Environmentalists cited the work of renowned Armenian scientist Petros Aloyan, who, in his work "Uranium-Potential of Geological Formations in Armenia," based on survey work, indicated the presence of uranium ore in the area of the gold mine. According to his data, the Amulsar uranium occurrence is located 4 km southeast of the village of Kechut and 5 km northwest of the summit of the mountain of the same name. According to Aloyan, approximately 76 tons of uranium were estimated at five sites within the Amulsar occurrence, and including the uranium in the thorium site, the total reserves could be estimated at 100 tons. Additional studies of 40 ore samples from Amulsar indicate that the deposit contains 195 tons of uranium and thorium.
As a reminder, on August 8, 2025, in Washington, US President Donald Trump, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration pledging their intention to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Trump stated that the key issue that had prevented the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan had been resolved: the opening of a transit route connecting mainland Azerbaijan with its exclave of Nakhichevan, with the participation of an Armenian-American consortium. TRIPP Development will be responsible for the development and construction of the "Trump Route" transport infrastructure in Armenia. Washington will own 74%, and Yerevan 26%. This Armenian-American joint venture will be registered in Armenia and will receive the right to develop the necessary infrastructure of railways and roads, oil and gas pipelines, and fiber-optic cables. Project management will be transferred to the American company for a period of 49 years.
