Quick Get the Smelling Salts: Donald Trump Just Said Something

The Ruling Class Conservative Media (RCCM) had better start carrying smelling salts, for they suffer from a daily case of the vapors. “Did you hear what he said now?” they ask in perpetual outrage at Donald Trump’s come-backs when he’s insulted. They’re worse than the girls at Yale. Somebody, please, get them a safe room.

So it was predictable that when Rolling Stone revealed certain unflattering comments that Trump made about Carly Fiorina, that the RCCM would fall all over themselves to see who could express the most righteous outrage.

After Rolling Stone wrote its in-depth profile of General Stanley McChrystal—the one that got him fired for some infelicitous comments about Obama, Slate ran an article advising people never to cooperate with a reporter assigned to write a feature story about them. There’s nothing in it for the subject of the profile other than dangerous pitfalls. Look, after a guy’s been hanging out with you for a couple of weeks you inevitably let your guard down. You talk a little, joke around a little. And before you know it, some comment to which you attached no significance has caused an epidemic of apoplexy amongst to commentariat.

And so it was when Donald Trump let his hair down aboard his plane. A TV clip came on showing Fiorina’s reaction to a question about Trump. I gather he didn’t like her answer. For sure he didn’t like her gratuitous and smarmy tweets after his dust up with Megyn Kelly. Fiorina wasted no time accusing Trump of having committed a blood libel in his remarks about the places from whence Kelly’s blood was issuing when she attacked him during the first presidential debate: “Mr. Trump: There. Is. No. Excuse”; “I stand with @megynkelly.

And so an unguarded Trump said, "Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? After which Rolling Stone did to Donald Trump what they did to General McChrystal.

In law there is the “Clean Hands Doctrine” which requires that someone who comes before the court must not himself have done something wrong relevant to the complaint. God has a similar doctrine which requires those who come before him to have “clean hands and a pure heart.” (Psalm 24:4)

So Carly really can’t be heard to complain about Trump’s remarks since she made some similar open-mic comments about Barbara Boxer which were unkind or, as Trump might say, “not nice.”

“God, what is that hair. So yesterday,” she said about Barbara Boxer. Fiorina’s press secretary dismissed the comments as “nothing but early morning small talk.”

Yeah, we all say these kinds of things. But it’s different when Trump says them. Then they are shockingly unpresidential. Especially when directed at the weaker sex. Does anyone remember the name of the President of the United States who called Sarah Palin a pig with lipstick?
