Monday letters: Houston tourism, city bats, classical music
Regarding "Houston intensifying efforts to woo tourists" (Page D1, Friday), the Ship Channel brings lots of industry to Houston but something else it brings is nature.
Short drives outside the city offer tremendous opportunities for people to hike, paddle and photograph nature.
Regarding "Classical radio needlessly silenced in city" (Page B11, Thursday), we're no longer going to be able to dial-up classical music in the fourth-largest city in the U.S.? That is worse than being merely embarrassing.
Regarding "Legendary Baugh also could sling some colorful language" (Page B1, Aug. 29), having served in the Navy during World War II, I was in an environment where it seemed no one spoke without a mouthful of "salty" expressions.
Regarding "Dirty tricks?" (Page B8, Sept. 4), even though there is apparently little interest by state elected officials in expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, some opponents still fight that possibility.
Besides humane justification for expansion, Texas would get back some of its tax money now going to states such as New Jersey and New York.
