AGP orders verification of pensioners
ISLAMABAD: The Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Rana Assad Amin ordered field audit officers on Thursday to verify the pensioners of their respective audit jurisdiction.
The AGP issued the orders after reports surfaced about 600,000 ‘ghost’ pensioners.
The AGP directed the field audit officers to conduct an audit of the pension payments and submit their reports to the AGP office.

A press release issued by the AGP office claimed “National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) is one of those institutions which are not getting their accounts audited from department of Auditor General of Pakistan due to the stay order granted by the Sindh High Court. The case of ghost pensioners, if any, could have been unearthed during the audit of NBP.”
According to the Constitution of Pakistan, it is mandatory for federal and provincial governments as well as any authority or body established by or under the control of federal or provincial government to get their accounts audited by the AGP, it added.—Staff Reporter
