Last October, a video depicting a young woman being repeatedly harassed while walking though the streets of New York City went viral, garnering more than 40 million views on YouTube, and demonstrating how unpleasant unwanted “cat calling" can be for those on the receiving end. For many who saw it, “10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman” served as a wake-up call for an ongoing problem in our society — but unfortunately, the experience hasn’t been as enlightening for one lady in particular. Shoshana Roberts, the NYC-based actress who starred in the video, is now suing its director, Rob Bliss, along with Hollaback!, the anti-street harassment group that produced and put it out. According to TMZ, Roberts and her lawyer, Kevin Goering — who specializes in matters of media and intellectual property — claim that her likeness has been used without her permission to promote Hollaback!, and that no written agreement was ever made with Bliss. Roberts is also reportedly suing Google, YouTube and T.G.I. Friday’s, each of which created parody videos of “10 Hours.” The amount she’s seeking in damages?
