Alejandro De Aza opts out of A’s minor-league deal
For the second time in three days, a non-roster player has opted out of a minor-league deal with the A’s.
De Aza, 32, was among the final candidates for the fifth outfielder spot, but the A’s might go with just four outfielders to open the season.
De Aza hit .300 and scored nine runs in 19 games, and he impressed the coaching staff with his strong defensive play, particularly in center.
In other A’s news Monday, Melvin said that Khris Davis (quad) will not play in a big-league game until Wednesday but he will continue to get at-bats in minor-league camp, where he can limit the amount of running he does.
Sonny Gray (lat) will throw at at a distance of 105 feet Monday and Joey Wendle (shoulder) will take batting practice.
