Chairman of the committee and representative of Mainland Constituency 2, Hon Moshood Oshun, said the exercise became necessary because of the need to account for “every single kobo of the tax payers’ money.
“It is necessary in order to ensure that ministries, departments and agencies did not only comply with the provisions and stipulations of the financial reputations of the state but to also ensure that public confidence reposed by Lagosian in the Lagos Assembly in the performance of its oversight functions are not compromised.”
The exercise which is to last for three weeks is also expected to find out and actualise all projects executed and expenditure incurred by ministries, departments and agencies of government.
The expenditure would include recurrent and capital as submitted to the Assembly after due diligence by the office of the auditor-general of the state.
The exercise is part of the oversight function of the House and aimed at ensuring that monies allocated are spent for the specific purposes for which they were earmarked.
The committee is also empowered to sanction erring civil servants no matter how highly placed.
