Soldiers of the Nigerian army during their clearance operations in the Northeast zone have rescued 88 people in Bama local government area of Borno and killed three Boko Haram insurgents when the troops confronted the terrorists.

Sani Usman, acting director, army public relations, in a statement issued at Abuja on Tuesday, August 16 stated that about 28 of the people rescued escaped from Bula Musa village, Borno state.

The army image maker said the people were two men, nine women and 17 children, adding that the soldiers killed three insurgents during different operations.

“They have been taken to Bama town for screening, profiling and possible handover to emergency management and humanitarian agencies,” Usman said. In addition, Usman said another 23 persons made up of one man, five women and 17 children were intercepted by troops and later sent to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Bama, Borno state.

The acting director, army public relations informed that all these happened after the captives ran away from the terrorists in Bula Musa general area on Sunday, August 14.

“In Dikwa, the troops also recorded influx of 37 IDPs, comprising two men, 12 women, 12 boys and 11 girls from Gulumba Gana village which is about 45km astride Gulumba-Kumshe Road axis, Bama local government area.

“They were screened by the troops and the Civilian JTF who, later handed them over to the Dikwa IDPs camp management for further registration and rehabilitation,” Usman said.

While speaking further, Usman said troops sent to the Nigeria-Cameroon border in collaboration with Civilian JTF likewise nabbed two Boko Haram insurgents named Mohammed Mundilga and Ahmed Ali, while trying to escape.

“The terrorists, who hail from Gamboru Ngala local government area on preliminary investigation confessed that they were Boko Haram fighters, and added that they sneaked into Gamboru from Abbaganaram village, Marte local government area after being tired of staying in the bush.

“They, terrorists, attempted to disguise and pass on as IDPs but ran out of luck as they were found out. Both of them have been handed over to the Joint Investigation centre for further interrogation,” the army spokesman stated.

‪Usman said the army likewise engaged in a clearance operation and fighting patrol at Wadama, Izakah, Gelemari and Kalizaram villages.

‪The acting director said this happened following information that insurgents were extorting residents of Zankari village, troops stationed in Monguno, reacted by bringing down two of the terrorists, while one sustained gunshot wounds.

‪In addition, the army image maker said the military recovered an AK-45 rifle and three rounds of 7.62mm ammunition from the terrorists.

A few days ago after the release of the latest Boko Haram video, the Nigerian army issued a statement where it stated that some persons were declared wanted in relation to the said video.
