The relationship between the Nigeria’s U-23 Dream Team and Solomon Dalung, the minister of Sports and Youth Development has gone so awry that the latter has been issued a stern warning.
According to a report on Vanguard, players of the Dream Team VI have told Dalung to stay away from them as they don’t want to see him in their camp.
The players have said they don’t want to be distracted by officials of Team Nigeria, as they specifically insisted that they don’t want Dalung, and his delegation anywhere near their dressing room before and during their semi-final clash against Germany, so as to avoid unnecessary distractions.
“We are set for the semi final clash with Germany. We have perfected our game plan to qualify for the final and win the gold medal for Nigeria like our 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games colleagues,” hinted one of the top players Monday night.

Despite Dalung’s apology for the manner his ministry treated the team during their training tour of Atlanta, USA, the player insisted that it was difficult for them to forget the scenario before achieving the feat of reaching the semi-final.
The players and officials were stranded for three days before being airlifted by American Delta Airline to Manaus, venue of their first group game against Japan, just hours to the game.
The Nigeria’s U-23 team may also have been angered by Dalung’s recent statement that the team will not receive match bonuses at the on-going Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
According to Dalung, match bonuses are not paid to players except during the World Cup or Africa Cup of nations.
