1st home game for new Giants Moore and Smith
1st home game for new Giants Moore and Smith
The Giants had been on the road since the Aug. 1 trade deadline, so pitchers Matt Moore and Will Smith put on their new home uniforms for the first time Friday.
Moore, acquired from the Rays, will make his AT&T Park debut Monday when he starts against the Pirates.
Smith, a former Brewer, has experience at the downtown yard and is looking to improve his ERA there, having surrendered eight runs in 31/3 innings.
“That whole row right there gave me nightmares,” Smith said, pointing across the clubhouse where Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik were situated.
The crowd could take you over.
The Rays considered seeking further compensation in the Moore trade because prospect Lucius Fox, who went to Tampa Bay, had a foot injury.
Eduardo Nuñez called Alex Rodriguez the “smartest player I ever met, a great teammate.”
Nuñez said he learned a lot from Rodriguez when they were teammates in the Bronx from 2010 to 2013.
A-Rod played his final Yankees game Friday.
Nuñez recalled feeling good about a big game when he got a surprising visit from A-Rod.

Looking back:
On Wednesday, Brandon Crawford became the second Giants shortstop to hit a home run in a 1-0 game.
Travis Jackson did it in the nightcap of a 1934 doubleheader against the Pirates at the Polo Grounds.
