June Osterberg, SF activist and journalist, dies
June Osterberg was one of those activist San Franciscans who fought hard to defend her vision of the city she loved.
[...] a few months before her death on Aug. 1 at the age of 87, Ms. Osterberg made a point of attending every public meeting of the city Port Commission or other government body concerned with planning or development.
“She was part roving reporter, part neighborhood historian and activist,” said Supervisor Aaron Peskin, who was Ms. Osterberg’s friend for years.
“She believed that the waterfront belonged to each and every citizen of San Francisco and California, and not to city bureaucrats and developers,” said Jon Golinger, another friend and activist.
Ms. Osterberg not only reported on various public meetings — It was amazing.
Last year she received an excellence in journalism award from the University of North Dakota.
