How the Dow Jones industrial average fared on Wednesday
Stocks retreated modestly Wednesday after comments from Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen implied that Fed policymakers are still considering raising interest rates in December.
The dollar's rise had a secondary impact of causing oil to fall, which in turn pushed oil, gas and energy stocks lower.
The Nasdaq composite index was lost 2.65 points, or 0.1 percent, to 5,142.48.
