Canada has never seen a prime minister take office in the way chosen Wednesday by Justin Trudeau, and has never before seen a cabinet with equal numbers of men and women, a turbaned Sikh as minister of defense and an aboriginal Canadian as minister of justice. He has, Trudeau said outside Rideau Hall in Ottawa, named “a cabinet that looks like Canada.” It numbers 15 women and 16 men, including Trudeau, two cabinet ministers with disabilities, three Canadians of South Asian ancestry and ministers from all 10 Canadian provinces as well as the territory of Nunavut.
