AFC AWARD A RECOGNITION FOR FAM

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has earned recognition by claiming this year’s Developing Member Association category of AFC 2018 Dream Asia Award.

The award, handed over to FAM at the AFC House today, was a form of recognition for FAM for having fulfilled the criteria of showing exemplary dedication in delivering social responsibility initiatives in the community through grassroots football programmes, incorporating elements of nutrition, workshops, programmes and community coaching courses up until July 2018.

In expressing his gratitude to AFC, FAM President, YH Dato' Haji Hamidin Haji Mohd Amin, believes the award would spur the technical department, specifically and the whole FAM set-up in general, to develop strong fundamentals at grassroots level.

“We are very honoured to receive this award. We would like to thank our collaborative partners as well for their undying commitment and support," he said.

FAM general secretary, Stuart Ramalingam, added by getting the award, FAM has captured the essence behind the Dream Asia theme, which stands for changing lives for the better through football. 

The award was given away by AFC Social Responsibility Committee Deputy Chairperson (Developing MA Category), Sardor Rakhmatullaev to Stuart.

“Thank You AFC. The award definitely will boost FAM to improve better in a way that we can implement youth development beyond simply ticking boxes,” he said.

FAM head of grassroots, Samuel Siew, was hopeful the award would signify a step in FAM's journey in developing the game through the masses.

“FAM believes grassroots and social responsibility comes hand in hand, thus, together with the FAM president, Dato’ Haji Hamidin, Stuart and  technical director Peter De Roo, we have a clear grassroots roadmap for Malaysia. 

“This award marks the new dawn of grassroots development in Malaysia and the recognition will only spur us on to work together with our affiliates to use football to educate, develop character and problem-solving skills among the next generation of young players in the country,” he said.
