Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry issues statement on the situation around Iran
Tengrinews.kz – On 2 March, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the situation around Iran.
The ministry expresses regret over the strikes on civilian facilities in Arab states that are not participating in the war against Iran, and with which Kazakhstan has been consistently developing relations of friendship and comprehensive cooperation.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the people of Iran in connection with the deaths of civilians, including children, as well as representatives of the top leadership of the Islamic Republic as a result of the recent tragic events. Compliance with the norms of international humanitarian law requires special protection of civilian facilities and the civilian population during conflicts,” the statement by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Erlan Zhetybayev, says.
It is noted that Kazakhstan, being one of the initiators of the Global Initiative on strengthening political commitment to international humanitarian law, emphasizes the importance of preserving humanity in conditions of armed conflicts.
“We reaffirm the invariability of our principled position on the need to resolve international disputes and conflicts exclusively by political and diplomatic means, with strict observance of the norms of international law and the UN Charter,” the Foreign Ministry’s official statement says.
Kazakh diplomats call on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and responsibility in order to prevent a further escalation of violence in the region.
