Tokayev sets tasks for the Los Angeles Olympics

Tengrinews.kz – Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded the champion of the XXV Winter Olympic Games, Mikhail Shaidorov, at a ceremony held at the Akorda residence, citing Akorda's press service.
The Head of State also reminded that in two years, Kazakhstan's athletes will compete at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

"Before the Ministry, the National Olympic Committee, and the federations, the task is to adopt a collegial work style, ensure effective support for the members of the national team. Special attention must be paid to preparations for the 2029 Winter Asian Games, which will be held in Almaty. The Games must be organized at the highest level. This is a very important event that will give a new impulse to the development of sports in Kazakhstan with a tangible impact on our economy and tourism sector," said the Head of State.

The President also stated that the government would create all conditions for the development of mass and professional sports, which is a priority of state policy.

"The results of the Olympics have been and remain an important measure of progress for countries. Our country ranked 25th in terms of the total number of athletes participating in these competitions. We are building a Just Kazakhstan, where every goal-oriented and hardworking person should have great opportunities for self-realization, including in sports. Honest competition, meritocracy, discipline, and responsibility – these are the pillars of both big sports and any strong state. The development of the creative potential of the nation has become the core of the new People’s Constitution, presented for a national referendum. The main law is designed to strengthen the foundation of a state in which the principles of justice, law-abiding, environmental care, and patriotism will be the main driving force of progress," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The Head of State also emphasized that in the development of the state, as in big sports, success comes to those who set complex goals and achieve them through hard work and teamwork.

"Today we congratulate Mikhail and, through him, all the members of the national team who demonstrated their best qualities and made every effort to achieve success, including personal records. For some athletes, these were their first starts at such a large scale, and they showed commendable results. It is important that many of our athletes entered the top-10 in their disciplines. This is a good foundation for future achievements. The successes of our citizens on the international stage, whether in sports, school and university Olympiads, art, or other fields, indicate the steady rise of our country. Very soon, the Winter Paralympic Games will begin in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. I would like to wish our athletes the best of luck!" – the President wished.

The 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy took place from February 6 to 22 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. The Winter Paralympic Games will be held from March 6 to 15, also in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
