Kazakhstan chooses site for second nuclear power plant: decree signed
Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan has finally decided on the site for the construction of its second nuclear power plant (NPP). The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
The second NPP in Kazakhstan will be built in the Almaty region.
“In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the use of atomic energy, the Government hereby decrees: to approve the decision on the construction of the nuclear installation ‘Second Nuclear Power Plant’ and on the site of the nuclear installation — Zhambyl District of Almaty Region,” the resolution states.
This decree enters into force on the date of its signing — January 26, 2026.
