Where to go for New Year in Astana
The Astana akimat announced that on 31 December from 21:00 New Year’s concerts will be held on the square by the “Qazaq eli” monument, on the EXPO site, and on the city square (in front of the akimat), featuring creative groups and stars of Kazakhstani pop music.
“Stars of the domestic stage — Zarina Omarova, Erkesh Khasen, Marzhan Arapbaeva, Saken Maigaziyev, Kazybek Kuraiysh, Serik Ibragimov, Zhubanysh Zheksenuly, Akbota Kerimbekova, the groups Melomen, Baiterek and other artists — will take part in the events,” the akimat noted.

New Year fireworks in Astana: where and when to watch
31 December
In Almaty district, festive concert programmes will start at 12:00 in Zheruyik Park and in the Zheleznodorozhny residential area; in Nura district in the Zhagalau square and in the Urker residential area; and in the Sarayshyk area in the Otau and Promyshlennyi residential neighbourhoods.
In Baikonyr district, festive concerts will begin at 14:00 in Ataturk Park and in the Ondiris residential area; in Yesil district in the Bagystan residential area; and in Saryarka district in the Qorgalzhyn square.
1 January
From 09:30 the Genesis exhibition will be open at the National Museum (54 Tauelsizdik Avenue). The exhibition features 55 works in various styles, including expressive abstraction, color field and abstract minimalism. Admission by ticket.
From 11:00 the exhibition “Van Gogh: Paintings Come to Life” will be open at the Lumiere-Hall Multimedia Museum (Abay Avenue, 8, 3rd floor). Admission by ticket.
At 18:00 a New Year stand-up show will take place at Carlin Stand Up Bar ( Heydar Aliyev str. 1). The line-up includes comedians Aset Uvaev, Aleksei Lugovsky, Jambul Kuldeev and Abai Zhenesov.
The interactive performance “The Tale of the Lost Toy” will be shown at the Abu Dhabi Plaza Shopping center. Performances in Kazakh will be at 12:00, 15:00 and 18:00; in Russian at 13:30, 16:30 and 19:30. Admission by ticket.
2 January
The Puppet Theatre will stage the play “The Nutcracker - New Year Adventures”, based on the fairy tale by E. T. A. Hoffmann. Admission by ticket.
At 17:00 Hungry Rabbit (38 Saken Seifullin Street) will host the New Year “Quiz, please!” event. Admission by ticket.
3 January
At 14:00 the M. Gorky Russian Drama Theatre (Zheltoksan St., 13) will present the New Year show “Hedgehog's Joy”. Admission by ticket.
From 11:00 to 13:10, the children’s show “The Polar Express Train” will be held by the main entrance of the old railway station (1 Goethe Street). Admission by ticket.
4 January
At 13:00 the New Year quest programme “The Toy Adventure. Signal: New Year” will take place. Admission by ticket.
At 11:00 the morning New Year event “Once Upon a Time in the Winter Forest…” with a fairy-tale performance will be held on the stage of the M. Gorky State Academic Russian Drama Theatre (13 Zheltoksan Street). Admission by ticket.
Where to Go for New Year in Almaty
According to the city akimat, on 31 December a New Year’s programme will take place on Astana Square for residents and guests of the metropolis, running from 18:00 to 00:30.
On New Year’s Eve, Kazakh pop artists will perform on stage, and there will also be a DJ Battle where DJs will present their own mixes featuring New Year tracks and popular hits.
31 December
At 12:00 and 16:00 the premiere of The Nutcracker will take place at Total Theatre (114 Shevchenko Street). Admission by ticket.
At 11:00, 12:00 and 13:30 the children’s New Year party “New Year Story” will be held at La Boheme Theatre (Valikhanov Street, 43 (corner of Zhibek-Zholy Street). Admission by reservation.
At 18:00 the concert Pino Sanna — New Year in Italian Style will be held at the EverJazz jazz club (40B Gogol Street). Admission by ticket.
At 19:00 “Penka” (574B Seifullin Street) will host a pre-New Year screening of Home Alone with a buffet. Admission by reservation.
At 21:00 the New Year party Jana Jilt will start at Colossus Space (17 Kaldayakov Street). Admission by ticket.

From 17:00 to 23:05 evening screenings by Open Cinema Almaty will take place. The programme includes three films and the final episode of a popular series: That Christmas, Stranger Things, Green Book, Bring Her Back from the Dead.
At 20:00 Arat’s Pub (26/1 Bukhar Zhyrau Street) will host the New Year stand-up show Best of Stand Up Camp, featuring Maksat Madali, Shyngys Ermek and Amanzhan Makhmetov. Admission by ticket.
2 January
From 11:00 to 19:00 the Work in Progress exhibition will be open at Aspan Gallery, Villa Boutiques & Restaurants (140a/3 Al-Farabi Avenue, minus 1st floor). Admission is free.
At 10:00, 12:30 and 15:00 the New Year performance “And the snow was falling magically.....” will be shown at the Palace of Schoolchildren. Admission by ticket.
At 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00 and 18:00 guided tours will be held at the Museum of Ice Cream and Sweets. Admission by ticket.
3 January
At 11:00 the New Year fairy-tale performance “Konyok-Ogonyok” (“The Little Fire-Hoof”) will take place at the Transformа cultural space (44 Markov Street).
At 22:00 the EverJazz jazz club (40B Gogol Street) will host the concert Jazz Colours — Happy New Year with Funk and Swing. Admission by ticket.
4 January
At 16:00 La Bohême Theatre (43 Valikhanov Street, corner of Zhibek Zholy Street) will host the children’s matinee “Three Kings Day”. Admission by ticket.
Where to Go for New Year in Shymkent
The Shymkent akimat reported that on 31 December at 19:30 the festive gala concert “Torlet, Jana jyl!” (“Welcome, New Year!”) will begin on Astana Square. Residents will see New Year theatrical performances and shows by local artists together with pop stars.
Taking the stage on New Year’s night will be Adilet Zhaugashar, the band DejaVu, Nematillo Zkrullaev, Astana Kargabay, as well as the winners of the “Shymkent Sazy” contest — Aidan Zhumabayev and Akerke Amalyat.
The celebration is promised to be truly spectacular, with a bright light show and a festive New Year atmosphere.
