Kein Team, kein Red Bull-Helm: World Cup-Pause für Laurie Greenland
Viel wurde spekuliert, bei welchem Team Laurie Greenland nach seinem Abschied beim Santa Cruz Syndicate landen könnte. Nun hat der Brite bekannt gegeben, eine Burn-out-bedingte Rennpause einzulegen. Sein vollständiges Programm möchte er in den kommenden Wochen preisgeben. Zudem scheint er seinen Red Bull-Helm abgegeben zu haben.
Wir haben es im letzten Fahrerkarussell-Artikel bereits prognostiziert, nun hat es sich als wahr herausgestellt: Laurie Greenland legt 2026 eine World Cup-Pause ein und hat bei keinem neuen Team unterschrieben. Der Brite war die letzten vier Jahre für das prestigeträchtige Santa Cruz Syndicate-Team unterwegs und konnte sich 2023 die Bronze-Medaille bei der Weltmeisterschaft in Fort William sichern. Insgesamt gehören ein Vize-Weltmeistertitel, einige Podiums-Plätze im World Cup und ein World Cup-Sieg zum beeindruckenden Palmarès des Briten. Nun hat er via Instagram bekanntgegeben, dass seine kommende Saison wohl deutlich anders aussieht.

Don’t get me wrong I love racing and I owe my life to it – but burnout is a thing and there’s plenty more I’d like to do with bikes outside of the tape. For years I’ve had ideas banked in my mind that racing hasn’t allowed me to do, it’s time to tick off a couple…!

So kündigt er lediglich an, beim Großteil der Rennen nicht an den Start zu gehen, was für vereinzelte Auftritte spricht. Aktuell ist er in Neuseeland auf einem Santa Cruz-Bike mit Flatpedals statt der üblichen Klickpedale unterwegs, hat jedoch vage angekündigt, bereits neue Dinge in Aussicht zu haben.
It’s so easy to dwell on the negatives, at times it was exceptionally shit. But when all is said and done, the only feeling in the forefront of my mind is happiness. Watching the amazing folks around me simply live their lives has been the most inspiring thing ever. Racing has had its little snippets of brilliance but for the large majority I didn’t feel myself – but, I’ve never been one to put all my eggs in one basket and I’m proud of the diverse life I’ve sculpted for myself, not just at an athlete but as a human.

In der Regel hält Red Bull sehr lange an Partnerschaften mit Athleten fest. Aktuell scheint der Fokus bei Laurie Greenland darauf zu liegen, nach einer frustrierenden Saison 2025 den Spaß am Radfahren wiederzufinden. Der Brite wurde in der Vergangenheit häufig von gesundheitlichen Problemen ausgebremst, scheint diese allerdings hinter sich gelassen zu haben.
