Graft, usurpation charges ordered filed vs Purisima, Napeñas over Mamasapano
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has ordered the filing of criminal charges before the Sandiganbayan against former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Alan Purisima and Special Action Force chief Getulio Napeñas for their involvement in the tragic Mamasapano operation in 2015 where 44 SAF troopers were slain by rebels. Morales issued the directive after rejecting the motions for reconsideration filed by the police officers, which, she said, “deserve scant consideration.” Purisima and Napeñas were charged with graft and corruption and usurpation of official function. Aside from criminal indictment, Purisima and Napeñas were found administratively liable for grave misconduct, neglect of duty, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
