Kazakhstanis alarmed by reports about November 17: what the Emergency Ministry said

Kazakhstan’s Emergency Ministry responds to alarming reports
In recent weeks, posts have been circulating on social media claiming that governments in different countries had simultaneously urged citizens to stock up on food and prepare for a major disaster. These posts were accompanied by predictions of a global cyberattack allegedly expected on November 17 that could disrupt banks and internet services.
In response to an editorial request, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said it had not issued any warnings about an emergency in November.
“As of today, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has not issued any official warnings about forecast threats or emergencies that would require the public to urgently stock up on food, water and medicines,” the ministry said.
Why Kazakhstanis are advised to keep a 72-hour supply
The ministry explained that the recommendation to keep essential supplies at home does indeed exist. However, it is a preventive measure and is not linked to any specific threat.
“Preparing a three-day (72-hour) supply of essential items in advance is one of the recommended measures for public preparedness for possible emergencies, including earthquakes and floods,” the ministry said.
According to the ministry’s recommendations, drinking water should be the first priority. The suggested amount is about three liters per person per day. For example, a family of four would need around 36 liters of water for three days.
It is also advisable to keep the following at home:
canned food, crackers, crispbread, cereals and other long-lasting foods;
a first-aid kit, bandages and medicines needed by family members;
documents and cash;
phones, chargers and a power bank;
a flashlight and warm clothing.
Is there any reason for concern in November
The Ministry of Emergency Situations stressed that it monitors the situation around the clock and oversees public safety together with other government agencies.
Kazakhstanis are advised not to rely on rumors or unverified posts.
Up-to-date information is always available on the ministry’s official website, its 112 Telegram channel and its social media accounts. People are also advised to follow updates from Kazhydromet and other government agencies.
If an emergency occurs and assistance is needed, call 112.
