President of Kazakhstan commented on Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia
Tengrinews.kz — President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, speaking at the 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and called for an end to such actions, citing the Akorda press service.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the significance of the opening of the Organization of Turkic States Alley, an initiative of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"I am confident that this alley will become a symbol of our unbreakable brotherhood. As we know, the global geopolitical situation continues to escalate. The situation in the Middle East, particularly the tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, is becoming increasingly strained. All this negatively impacts global trade, economic, and transport-logistics chains, including those connecting neighboring Turkic states. Kazakhstan strongly condemns the unprovoked attacks by the Houthi armed movement on brotherly Saudi Arabia. We support calls for an immediate end to such unlawful actions," the President stated.
Background on the Houthi attacks
The Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) is an armed group operating in Yemen. The group is engaged in a conflict with pro-government forces supported by Saudi Arabia, while the Houthis themselves are backed by Iran.
Military hostilities between the parties resumed in mid-July after a four-year lull. Since then, the Houthis have established control over the western coast of the Red Sea and several cities near the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait—a vital maritime route connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
On October 28, the Houthis claimed to have launched missile strikes against military transport aircraft at airbases in southern Saudi Arabia, the country's Ministry of Defense building, and an oil refinery in Ras Tanura in the eastern part of the kingdom.
