20 more stations: how the LRT in Astana will be expanded

Tengrinews.kz — As part of the second phase of Tarlan Astana (LRT), 20 more stations are planned to be built in Astana. Five of them will be located on the right bank, while another three will be built in the direction of Kosshy. City Transportation Systems (CTS) provided an update on the current stage of the project.
Five stations to appear on the right bank: what is happening there now
According to CTS, in response to an official request from the Tengrinews.kz editorial team, five stations are planned for the right bank. They will be located near Saryarka and Zhenis avenues and the Astana-1 railway station.
Earlier, CTS head Asylbek Duisembayev said the line was planned to be extended through the Khan Shatyr area, along Kenesary and Zhenis avenues, to the old railway station.
The company clarified that the previously announced route has not changed.

At present, geological surveys are being carried out on the right bank, along with preparations for construction and installation work.

“The main construction and installation work on the Tarlan Astana extension section is planned to begin after the geological work is completed,” CTS said.

Thus, the work currently visible on the right bank does not yet involve the actual construction of the elevated track or stations.

CTS has not yet disclosed the cost of the work. The company said it will be determined after the necessary procedures are completed. No specific completion date has been announced either, as it will depend on timely financing.
Elevated track already being built toward Kosshy
Another section of Tarlan Astana’s second phase is being built in the direction of Kosshy. Work there is at a more advanced stage: support pillars and the elevated structure are currently under construction.
The line will be 9 kilometers long and will include three stations.

CTS previously said that, subject to sufficient funding, this section could be completed by the end of 2027. In its response to the editorial team, however, the company did not confirm a specific completion date, again noting that the timeline depends on timely financing.

The sections toward the old railway station and Kosshy are planned to be built in parallel. The cost of this section has also not yet been determined.
20 stations in three directions: where the new lines will run
According to CTS, the second phase of Tarlan Astana will total 26.51 kilometers and include 20 new stations.
In response to our request, the company separately detailed five stations on the right bank — near Saryarka and Zhenis avenues and the Astana-1 railway station — as well as three stations on the 9-kilometer line toward Kosshy.

However, the second phase includes more than just these two directions. It was previously reported that new lines are planned in three directions: to the Astana-1 railway station, the Zhagalau residential area and the city of Kosshy. The total length of the second phase was estimated at 26.5 kilometers, with 20 stations planned.
The project documentation for the second phase has also been published in the National Environmental and Natural Resources Data Bank. It divides the project into three new lines.
48.91 kilometers and 38 stations: what the Tarlan Astana network will look like
Once the first and second phases are completed, the total length of the Tarlan Astana network is expected to reach 48.91 kilometers, while the number of stations will increase to 38, according to CTS.
The first phase currently includes 22.4 kilometers and 18 stations. The second phase will add another 26.51 kilometers and 20 stations.
