Kazakhstan’s world boxing champion wins Asian Games medal

Tengrinews.kz - Two-time world boxing champion Alua Balkibekova lost to Asian champion Thi Tam Nguyen of Vietnam in the semifinals of the Asian Games.
The bout took place in the 51-kilogram weight category and went the full distance. In both the first and second rounds, the majority of judges favored the Vietnamese boxer.
The situation did not change in the third round.
Alua Balkibekova won a bronze medal at the Asian Games.
Balkibekova became the first representative of Kazakhstan to win a medal at these Asian Games. Only she and Natalya Bogdanova reached the semifinal stage.
As for her opponent, Nguyen is Vietnam’s first Asian boxing champion.
In the final, which will take place on October 2, the Vietnamese boxer will face Olympic champion Wu Yu of China. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Wu defeated Kazakhstan’s world champion Nazym Kyzaibay in the semifinals.
Balkibekova is a two-time world champion from Kazakhstan
As a reminder, last year Alua Balkibekova became a world boxing champion under two different organizations.
In March, she won the IBA tournament in the 50-kilogram weight category at the World Championships in Nis, Serbia, and in September she took gold at the World Boxing tournament in Liverpool, England.
