A week-long search and 63 dives: bodies of two fishermen found in Lake Zaysan
Fishermen failed to return from the lake
On September 22, in the Balykshy rural district of the Kurchum District in the East Kazakhstan Region, two men born in 1979 and 2001 went fishing on Lake Zaysan but did not return.
Emergency Ministry rescuers launched a continuous search operation. Local residents also joined the effort using their own boats.
On the first day of the search, a sunken boat was found 3–4 kilometers from the shore.
On September 29, local residents found the body of the man born in 2001. On September 30, rescuers recovered the body of the second fisherman, born in 1979, from the water.
During the search, Emergency Ministry rescuers carried out 63 diving operations. They searched the shoreline and the lake, including with the use of drones. Weather conditions complicated the rescue effort. Strong winds and rough waters made it difficult for search teams to move across the lake and for divers to work.
