Heat up to +35°C and snow: forecasters update September outlook for Kazakhstan

Tengrinews.kz — Kazhydromet forecasters have updated their advisory weather outlook for September 2026 in Kazakhstan. The first month of autumn will begin with contrasting conditions: temperatures of up to +35°C are expected in the western and southern regions, while the north, east and center may see precipitation turning from rain to snow, as well as frost.

Autumn to begin with sharp temperature swings

According to the forecast, summer-like warmth will persist in western and southern Kazakhstan at the beginning of September. Daytime temperatures may rise to +25…+35°C.

At the same time, cooler autumn weather is expected in the northern, central and eastern regions. Nighttime temperatures may fall to 0…+8°C, with ground frost of 1–3 degrees below zero possible in some areas. During the day, temperatures in these regions will reach +10…+18°C before later rising to +22…+30°C.

In the south, temperatures at the beginning of the month are expected to range from +13…+20°C at night to +25…+35°C during the day. In the southeast, nighttime temperatures will be +10…+18°C, while daytime temperatures will range from +20…+28°C to +25…+33°C.

Precipitation is also possible in northern, central and eastern regions in early September. Rain may turn to snow, with stronger winds also expected.

Heat to give way to cooler weather

In the middle of the first ten-day period, mainly dry weather is expected across most of Kazakhstan, with temperatures rising significantly.

In the west, northwest and southwest, daytime temperatures may reach +25…+35°C.

However, in the second half of the first ten-day period, another northwestern cyclone will bring unstable weather. Precipitation and stronger winds are expected, after which the heat will begin to subside.

Frost possible in the second half of September

During the second and third ten-day periods of the month, forecasters expect significant temperature fluctuations, ranging from above-zero temperatures to frost.

In western and northwestern regions, nighttime temperatures may drop to 0…+5°C, with ground frost down to -3°C possible. Daytime temperatures will gradually fall from +27…+35°C to +12…+22°C.

In the north, center and east, nighttime temperatures of 0…+5°C are also expected, with frost down to -3°C possible in some areas. Daytime temperatures may fall from +20…+30°C to +8…+17°C.

In the southern half of the country, nighttime temperatures will fluctuate between +2…+10°C and +12…+17°C during the month, while mountainous areas may see frost of 1–6 degrees below zero. Daytime temperatures may fall from +25…+33°C to +15…+22°C.

What September will be like overall

Overall, the average monthly temperature in September is expected to be close to the climatic norm across most of Kazakhstan.

The exceptions will be West Kazakhstan Region, western Atyrau Region and Mangystau Region, where temperatures are forecast to be around 1°C above normal.

Precipitation is generally expected to remain within the climatic norm. Above-normal precipitation is forecast in the far west, northwest and northeast of the country, while below-normal precipitation is expected mainly in southern and southwestern regions.

Forecasters stressed that the monthly outlook is advisory and will be adjusted as weather patterns change, with more precise forecasts issued for shorter periods.
