Tokayev launched Astana LRT operations

Tengrinews.kz — On Saturday, May 16, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev launched the Astana LRT. As the system's first passenger, the Head of State traveled from the airport "Auezhai" station to the "National Museum" station.
The Head of State reviewed the operations of the Unified Dispatch Center, which monitors and regulates the capital's public transport system, including the LRT.
According to Astana Akim Zhenis Kassymbek, a specialized light rail transit dispatch service was established as part of the LRT launch.
A total of 21 specialists are involved in monitoring and regulating Astana's public transport.

Each LRT train is designed to carry over 600 passengers. On the 22.4-kilometer line, 15 trains will operate in driverless mode, with four kept in reserve.
Processes for control, acceleration, braking, and door operation, as well as emergency response, are fully automated. For additional oversight, manual control and dispatcher communication capabilities have been maintained.

The infrastructure includes 18 stations and a modern depot. Travel time for the full route will take approximately 40 minutes at an average speed of 50–60 kilometers per hour. Trains will run at 5–6 minute intervals.
The Head of State noted the special significance of today's event for Astana and all of Kazakhstan. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that in the future, the capital should transform into a Eurasian transport hub.

To further develop public transport, plans are being finalized for the implementation of the second phase of the LRT. Specifically, this includes the construction of new lines toward the Astana-1 railway station, the Zhagalau residential area, and the city of Kosshy. The total length of the second phase will be 26.5 kilometers with 20 stations.

Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev wished success in the further implementation of the project to representatives of the Chinese company and employees of CTS Transportation and Astana LRT involved in the construction.

Launch of Astana LRT
CTS previously informed journalists that the first passengers would be able to use the light rail system as early as this week, on May 16-17..
Astana LRT will feature a total of 18 stations, with routes passing through the city's main business districts and residential areas. Some stations have already been named. A route map for the trains has also been released.
