Kazakhstan government to switch to national messenger

Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting on the development of artificial intelligence, where issues of improving data management efficiency and strengthening cybersecurity were discussed, citing Akorda.
The President noted that the development of AI brings fundamentally new threats and challenges, while traditional response mechanisms cannot adapt quickly enough.

"We all see how neural networks are used to create biometric copies of a person, imitate their voice, image, and even behavior. This can be used to gain access to personal data and citizens’ bank accounts, as well as to produce fake videos aimed at manipulating public opinion," Tokayev said.

He specifically addressed the problem of vulnerability in information systems. According to him, since the beginning of this year, there have been more than 40 major data leaks, with the largest incident occurring in June. Although many such incidents formally take place in the private sector, the state must take full responsibility for the overall level of digital security in the country.
Ensuring secure communications is a serious priority, the President stressed, as much of today’s business and official interaction, including the transfer of citizens’ personal data, occurs through international messengers. These platforms are often used to request individual identification numbers, health records, and other sensitive information.

"Such practices violate personal data protection laws and lead to the leakage of information beyond national jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan has developed its own messenger, Aitu, which can ensure the necessary level of security. The government should work on transitioning all communications containing personal data to the secure national messenger," Tokayev said.
