Episode 4 of 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 Just Broke Major MCU Record
After its tremendously beloved third season aired in 2018, Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix was infamously canceled, much to fans’ displeasure. An instantaneous outcry from fans created the #SaveDaredevil social media movement, which was championed by stars of the series Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio.
After television rights for Daredevil reverted back to Marvel from Netflix in 2020, fans turned to leaders of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for help. At the time, the MCU did not make TV, outside of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a couple short-lived series such as Agent Carter on ABC. Then WandaVision debuted in January 2021 and started a new era of scripted series at Marvel Studios, which has seen 20 seasons of scripted series released on Disney+ since then.
After four years of fans vying to save Daredevil, a new series made by Marvel Studios with the original cast returning was announced in July 2022. Due to a massive creative overhaul midway through production, it would take another three years for season one of Daredevil: Born Again to finally release in March 2025.

The much-anticipated reprisal is now halfway through its second season and has been mostly praised universally. Some die-hard fans of the original series have been critical of the Marvel Studios version for not capturing the full essence of Netflix’s Daredevil. However, every episode of Season 1 had an IMDb score of at least an 8.0. Four of the eight episodes reached an 8.5 rating or higher.
Episode 4 of Season 2, which was released Tuesday, just accomplished something that no other Marvel Studios show has ever done.
The newest episode, titled “Gloves Off,” currently has a rating of 9.6/10 on IMDb — a higher rating than any episode of television ever produced by Marvel.
Even Netflix’s original series, which is still considered the gold standard, never had an episode rated higher. The Season 3 finale, which ended up being the original series finale, also had a rating of 9.6, tying Daredevil: Born Again’s latest.
Head of Marvel Television Brad Winderbaum highlighted, in an appearance on the Escape Pod Podcast this week, why he is looking forward to fans seeing the new episode. It contains an action sequence featuring Daredevil villain Bullseye, which Winderbaum personally loved.
“That scene is one of my favorite things that I’ve been a part of,” Winderbaum said. “That sequence is unbelievable. Marketing wants to release it. Like every day I have to talk to them and say, ‘Don’t release it! Don’t release it! People need to see it in the show.’”
Marvel TV’s head would lose that battle, as the clip was released prior. You can watch it below.
