Beloved Apple TV Comedy Renewed For New Season

Season 3 of Shrinking may be over, but it's good news for fans of Apple TV's hit comedy—the show has already been renewed for a fourth season.

The announcement came back in January, just weeks before Shrinking's third season began to air. While not a surprise given the huge popularity of this charming comedy, the news was a welcome confirmation that Shrinking isn't going anywhere.

What Will 'Shrinking' Season 4 Be About?

"This is the ending of the three-season story we pitched... We’re lucky enough that we all like each other," Shrinking's creator Bill Lawrence expressed in an interview with THR. "The actors love the gig [...] and Apple loves the show."

However, Lawrence also confirmed that the future of Shrinking is going to look very different. He originally pitched the show as a three-season story, with Jason Segel's character gradually learning to cope with the loss of his wife as the saga progressed. When the show returns, it won't be the same story.

"If we turned on the fourth season and Jimmy was just sitting around saying to Paul, 'You know, I’ve been thinking about it, and I’m still super sad about my wife,' I’d be like, 'I don’t f***ing want to watch this anymore. I already saw this!'," Lawrence explained.

"This is the end of that story. This is the finale of that three-season story. And I hope that people will dig it that when we come back, whether there’s a time jump or not, that they’ll feel like we’re telling a completely different story."

When Is 'Shrinking' Season 4 Coming Out?

Although there's been no official release date given for Shrinking's fourth season, we can look to the timescale between previous seasons for a better idea. Fans have typically had to wait between one and two years for new seasons of Shrinking, with a 19-month wait between the first two seasons and a 15-month wait between the previous two.

This means Shrinking's fourth season should be here by spring/summer 2027, if the show follows a similar release timeline. However, it's possible that fans will have to wait a little while longer this time, given the brand new story and potential time jump between seasons.

Who Will Return For 'Shrinking' Season 4?

Bill Lawrence has confirmed that in addition to Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, the rest of Shrinking's main cast will be returning for the upcoming season. This means Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, and Michael J. Fox should all be back.

Shrinking's third season ended on a fairly definitive note, with Paul moving to Connecticut, Alice leaving for college, and Jimmy's neighbors all going on an extended vacation to Barcelona.

It's unclear exactly how Shrinking will bring all of these characters back together for season 4, but Lawrence is confident that it can be done right. "I don’t think you can ever get away from where the show started, which is with Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, who both have very distinct things we know we have to service."
